Even though in this year, flooding season is much later than previous years, it still remains an essential livelihood source for the locals in Mekong Delta. This flooding season also marks the beginning of a tourist season of this region.
We offer “Explore Mekong Delta in flooding season” tour, departures on every Saturdays. With our tour, you will have the chance to visit the natural landscapes as the national park of Tram Chim, Tra Su cajuput forest, as well as a lot of specialties only found in flooding season: Dien Dien flowers and Linh fishes hot pot.
On the tour to Chau Doc, we will visit many holy destinations such as the Thoai Ngoc Hau Temple, Tay An Pagoda, Ba Chua Xu Temple, and mosques as well as the craft village of Cham people and the floating fishing village on Hau River.
Tra Su, which is approximately 30 km from the town of Chau Doc, is a unique wetland ecosystem conservation area of natural habitat of Mekong Delta. In flooding season, travelers will actually find it exciting and interesting while cruising into the forests to experience the beauty of white cajuput flower blooming under the shining sunshine. The cajuput plants line two sides along the forest’s roads, which is, at that moment, submerged under the floodwater whilst the duckweeds cover on the surface of the water. Sometimes, you can hear the birds singing and the oars stirring under the water, which disturbs the peaceful and quite atmosphere in the cajuput forest.
On our way to the next destination – Long Xuyen, travelers will pay a visit to the biggest flower villages in Sa Dec city. In flooding season, the flowers are all planted on the trusses that make the whole flower field looking like floating on water.
On arriving in Long Xuyen, travelers will take the ride on the ferry to the Islet of Ong Ho, which is a historic place of the Mekong Delta. Then, we will take a bicycle tour around this islet in order to enjoy the peaceful and romantic scenery here. The incense and smithies stick-making entities and wooden craft workshop remind travelers of the ancient villages of the past southern region.
Located on Hau River is the floating market of Long Xuyen. This floating market is a wholesale market that supplies numerous agricultural products. Even though the floating market of Long Xuyen is not as big as the busy floating market of Cai Rang, Can Tho city, it still has its attractions. Some typical specialties of flooding seasons as Linh dishes, water lilies, and Dien Dien flowers are all sold here. This is such an ideal setting for catching lively moments of flooding season.
The national park of Tram Chim, which covers about 7588 ha of Tam Nong District, was recognized as one of the Ramsar Sites, whose rank is 2000th all over the world. This national park is one of the remained wetlands of Vietnam and a vital habitat for Sarus Crane that is a threatened species listed in Red List.
Every year, when the flooding season begins, Tram Chim is packed with colorful dances of nature. Instead of visiting this national park in the sunrise like others, you can start your wonderful journey in the late afternoon so that you can observe the spectacular landscape at dawn with the cranes coming back here after a hard-working day. You will find your mind so peaceful and relaxing at this scenery.
Being one of three biggest and most famous floating market of the southern Vietnam, the floating market of Cai Rang is a must-visit destination when traveling to Can Tho. Just like other floating markets of Mekong Delta, Cai Rang floating market is always packed with busy activities of hundred boats trading agricultural products as sugar cranes, fruits or even candies. At 10:00 AM, the Cai Rang floating market will close, therefore, you should take your time. If you want to experience the busy scene here, you had better pay a visit to this destination around 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM to have the best experience of the locals’ daily life.
